contributions to reduce the federal deficit, dollars have been pouring into
the Treasury. Through the second week o f M ay $276,557.10 had been
received from 3.313 contributors. The checks — all deductible as charita
ble contributions — ranged in sire from I cent to $23,000.

buy shares in publicly held companies and thus give employees participa
tion in the ownership and control o f Swedish industry. The funds will be
financed by a 20 percent levy on excess profits plus an additional 0.29%
payroll tax and will be controlled by boards on which trade union repre
sentatives comprise a m ajority. The funds will have a cumulative budget
o f more than $250 million a year, enough to give them ownership o f 7%

highest o f any North American region, according to Robert
M cCullough, manager o f regulatory finance and Charles Allcock,
branch manager o f load forecasting for PO E. Their survey o f regions
found the O hio Valley, the G u lf Coast and the Tennessee Valley A u
thority had higher power rates. The Battelle Northwest report frequently
quoted by the aluminum companies has only the T V A with higher rates.
Second, PG E concludes aluminum prices, not power rates, were the
determining factor in keeping aluminum plants in or out o f operation.

Mortgage rates have been slowly rising over the last few weeks and
several major banks recently raised their "p rim e” interest rate on loans
to "p referred " customers from lOVi to 11 percent. And there is now fear
that the Federal Reserve System will undertake actions which will cause
interest rates to increase even more.
