On Friday evening, April 22, the planned sched ule peaked with "A lu m n i N ig ht.” Dozens o f young adults returned to the C e n te r d u rin g the week to celebrate the founding o f the Center by the late G race C o llin s and her d a u g h te r, E velyn C o llin s . O n A lu m n i N ig h t tributes came fro m every direction to enfold and assure Evelyn Collins o f the love and respect o f the co m m un ity fo r herself and her work and service in caring about children o f all races in the Northeast Com m unity. dressing the meeting, he referred to “ M o th e r C o llin s " as having been among those Portlanders who were warm and welcoming to him when he came to P o rtlan d 13 years ago. They did a highly creditable jo b o f “ putting away childish th in g s" as they sang and recited w ith o u t an adult leader. There were adult male soloists, a duet and a m ixed trio which included Collins herself. City Commissioner Charles Jordan was there as principal speaker, but he also spoke as an alum nus. The exhibit w ill be an opportunity to see the broad scope o f W illiames’ work over the past 20 years. Collectors w ill be on hand to see prints o f some o f their favorites by this artis t, several o f whose works are owned by the M etropolitan A rt Museum in New York C ity. Sandy Blvd. 284-5757 District 18 Democrats elect Boyer Bob Boyei was elected treasurer o f District 18 Democrats. Boyer, a lo n g -tim e co m m un ity activist and la b o r lea d e r, was a ca n d id a te fo r state representative from District 18. District 18 Democrats form ed a committee to follow up on the fund ing cuts to the M etropolitan Human Relations Commission. Members of the co m m ittee are N ick B a rn ett, Ross D anielson , T h e lm a C arlso n, Bob Boyer, Grant Paddon and Gail Washington. The organization also set the third Thursday o f each month as its meet ing date.
