“ I t ’s my first time to w o rk w ith
U n ited W a y ,” Haynes says. “ It
gives me a d iffic u lt pace. I ’ m
meeting lots o f new people and
learning lots o f new things. In this
assignment I solicit cooperation and
funds fro m sm all businesses and
professional o rg an iza tio n s. I am
meeting real estate people, a tto r
neys, accountants, learn ing how
they run their businesses, also how
ra d io stations and construction
companies run theirs. These people
have been wonderful.
Haynes’ new pace has not slack
ened the “ old” one. She is still pres

When Haynes is not presiding at

may be acting as treasurer fo r the
Portland Chapter o f Links, Inc. She
is also on the executive board at the
C enter fo r C o m m u n ity M e n ta l
Health. Other a ffiliatio n s are with
the P o rtla n d U rb a n L eag u e, the
N A A C Ip , and the Oregon Alliance
of Black School Educators.

one, Bryan, just passed the C alifo r
nia State Board e xa m in atio n s to
practice dentistry in that state. A ll
