Urban League Tennis
Tournament Results
Greg Heinz is the hottest tennis
player in the P ortland area right
now. He came into the Urban
League Tournam ent immediately
following a single victory to take
first place in the singles of the Port
land Public Parks Tournament Au
gust 6th.
In doubles. Tom Clark and Bob
H orning, two outstanding senior
players, gave tournament fans a real
treat by taking Heinz and partner
John LaPlante (UP Coach) to 3 sets
in the semi-finals.
Four Northeast Portland favor
ites walked away with trophies.
H arold Johnson and Rich Single-
ton, two Irving Park regulars, took
first and second place respectively in
the age-35-and-over men’s singles.
A1 Clay took home the second place
honors in the m en’s open singles.
Clay excited the crowd with a 3-set
victory over fourth seeded Hal Bar
ton in the semi-finals. Although he
lost in straight sets to Heinz 6-4, 6-4
in the final, he exhibited a superb
game of solid ground strokes, in
cluding some spectacular passing
shots. Stanley Sykes took the Class
B m en’s singles in a breeze. Sykes
was never seriously challenged, and
the 15-year-old Jesuit High School
player showed the potential of a
budding tennis star.

Free blood pressure treatm ent
High blood pressure particularly
afflicts black persons and those over
45. It also runs in fam ilies. There
are no symptoms. In all, about 20
per cent of the U.S. population is
hypertensive, placing them at extra
risk for heart attack and stroke.
Supervising the studies is Dr. DA-
vid M cCarron, chief of the hyper
tension program at the OHSU. He
said that these studies will allow
many patients to receive treatment
who would not otherwise be able to
afford care.
