In v ita tio n a l team has once again
been selected.
Once again it w ill be coached by
B arry A dam s o f Glencoe and N ick
Robertson o f M cM in nville .
A nd once again this team w ill by
lily w hile. N ow , I ’ ve always know n
th a t O reg on , as a state, is u niqu e,
b ut to th in k th a t th e re ’ s over tw o
thousand black kids playing basket­
ball in the state, and none arc good
enough to be selected on this select
team, is ridiculous.
The Oregon team has done well in
the past. In 1979 they placed fo u rth
in the n a tio n a l to urna m en t and in
1980 im p ro v e d th e ir p o s itio n to
th ird . Believe me this is quite an ac­
c o m p lis h m e n t when you co n sid e r
th ey're not using the best players in
the state.

the tapes o f the fig h t, and it was a
dandy. Ramsay can be p ro ud o f his
perform ance against the h e a v y -h it­
ting Ayala.
T ony adm itted after the fig h t that
Ramsay was the toughest opponent
he’s ever faced.

to determ ine the W o rld w id e C ha m ­
pions fo r 1982. As an added feature,
the Oregon State C h ili C o o k o ff w ill
be conducted on Saturday, Septem­
ber 4th.
T he Estacada T im b e r Park is lo ­
cated on H ig h w a y 224 next to the
Clackamas R iver, close to the P o rt­
land M e tro po lita n area. Festival o r­
ganizers pride themselves on a w ell-
ru n p ro g ra m w ith a b o w l-s h a p e d
area fo r tw e n ty th o u s a n d sp e c ta ­
to rs. Cos, fo r each event is $3 per
day at the gate, fo u r d o lla rs in a d ­
vance fo r a three-day pass b u tto n ,
available at G .l. Joe’s and Estacada
area merchants. The pass b u tto n at
the gate is $5.50. Seniors and c h il­
dren tw elve and under are free. A
to ta l o f $1500 in door prizes w ill be
d ra w n fo r on Sunday, J u ly 25th at
the end o f the T im b e r Festival. En-

Both shows w ill have music, horse

the Oregon press did not go unchal­
lenged. The OSU A frica n Students'
A s s o c ia tio n (A S A ) re p lie d to the
distortions saying, " I t is disquieting

S p rin g b o k w re stlin g team th ro u g h
O re g o n a slan te d p ic tu re is being
presented to the p u b lic ." “ Blacks in
S o u th A f r ic a , ” the le tte r sa id ,
“ must s till undergo the h u m ilia tio n
o f being treated as second-class c iti­
zens fo r a few token sports conces­
sions. Some shrewd opportunists, to
