The obvious concern for beauti
fully coiffeured hair was forsaken,
however, C la iro l hair color tones
framed the faces with hues o f gold

black velvet.

Sculptured lines and painstaking
concern for fine detail were appar

N atural fabrics were favored, as
seen, the causual elegance o f the
touch o f luxurious silk to the nubby
textures o f linen, twills, wools, an
gora sweaters and bulky cable knits.
Usage o f leather and suede were
dom inant— trimmed with foxtails,
mink and the absolutely, ultimate
and elegant d etailin g o f sable.
Lambswool and cashmere were also
strong.

C h ris tia n D io r was favored by
Ebony Fashion Commentator Shay-

Everyone w atched, w ith praise
and pleasure, the collectio n o f

colors for this season’s men’s wear.
Dominant colors seen on the run

Tidbits From
the Show
Most exciting were the swirls o f
capes and new waltz length ballerina
form s viewed. Lengths are y o u r
choice this season— pencil slim
shorts stopping at the knees.. and
the prairie skirts extending to the
ankles. There was much excitement
with the return o f "pedal pushers”
in suit design as well as beach wear
— the newest fashion concept.

Unquestionably, the Ebony Fash
ion Fair was one o f the finest collec
tions o f o rig in a l designs ever to
grace thè stage o f the Civic Auditor
ium and the great wilds o f the
Northwest. Saying "g o o d -b y e " to
P ortland, Ebony’s Fashion Fair is
on the road again with 18 shows to
perform before their three m onth
fair will be completed.
Because o f the cost o f clothing to
day, be a dollar-wise shopper. Pur
chase a piece you can add on to
what you already have. Remember
— q u a lity not q u a n tity . H ats are
back. Designers are placing empha
sis on casual dressing. Garments can
be purchased as separates. Women
must make the choice o f w hat ¿t
fashionable. Most important for fall
are fiat boots with no height to the
heel. Street length coats were totally
o m itted from the lin e -u p . Short
jackets were emphasized and fu r
coats were strong.
