The demise o f the hat was only a tem porary phase in fashion history. Traditionally, hats were the final touch of completing any costume. Hats are often worn to express an attitude o f: chic sophistication, de- murcncss, sweetness, charm or being foxy. They are worn also as a cover-up lor the blahs (especially the Sunday blahs) or to disguise a messy hair style. My favorite Auntie, a collector o f hats, always maintained, "Seal it o ff with u hat, for all occasions." To some, the hat is a way o f fram ing and high lighting the face. The brim o f a hat, in particular, can indicate feelings and attitudes—cocky, sad, or chic. For men, a hat can ton o ff that perfect busi ness suit. A hat makes a statement o f importance. It can symbolize author ity. It expresses the way you feel. \ü Á /l \ J haben haberdasher offers Color and texture play a very important part in hat selection, especially in relation to the season. Choose your favorite hat salon or m illiner and let the hands o f ex perts pamper and service you. In selecting a hat, all angles o f the head, face, cars and neck should be taken in to consideration in relation to the brim , width, color and shape o f the hat. Ornamentation can be fun. but one must be careful. Over-exaggeration can destroy your total effect. On the other hand, though, the addition o f ribbons, bands, scarves, feathers and jewelry can enhance or update your hat o f the hour. Whatever fashion approach is taken, the effect achieved should be eye catching. The look and style o f hats only changed by the seasonal fabric. Whether formed and styled as a boater, French beret, Fedora or a hat o f the broad-brimmed garden party variety, the wearer should not forget the face underneath. The hat w ill attract attention but the make-up assists in the final effect and balance o f hat and face. C olor coordination is vital to the relationship. The color o f the hat should be coordinated with the face colors. Eye make-up can be played down when wearing a large-brimmed hat, but the remainder o f the face should be high lighted. Flawless skin, lips and cheeks create the look o f vibrance and vital ity. W ith a smaller hat, the face make-up can be emphasized more.
