Survey tests nutrition knowledge
Do you think you have to elim in
ate foods like popcorn, peanut but
ter and honey from your diet before
you can lose weight? A recent sur
vey conducted across the country by
W eight W atchers In te rn a tio n a l

termine current national awareness
o f n u tritio n a l needs. T h e results
were u n p red ictab le, o fte n sur
prising, but before revealing them,
here is an o p p o rtu n ity fo r you to
test your own nutritional knowledge
against the national average.

tions, see t ow your responses stack
up against the rest o f the country.
*( 1)— If you answered " T ru e ” to
question one, you were not alone.
Over 61 per cent o f the Americans
surveyed in ten m ajor cities includ
ing San Francisco, A tla n ta and
Washington, D .C ., also believe that
exercise increases the appetite. A c
tu a lly , this is in co rrect. U nder
normal circumstances, exercise re
duces your desire to eat and only
serves to tone and tune your body.
So the next time you get a craving to
eat, take a walk instead.
• (2 ) — W hat was your answer
again? Over 37 per cent o f those ser-
veyed said “ tru e ” when they
shouldn’t have. Starch is a necessary
part o f everyone’s diet. It is not the
spaghetti but the fats in those heavy
sauces and the b u tter or o il that
should be avoided.
•(3 )— I f you answered “ true” to
this one, you are absolutely correct.
M en do burn up calories more
quickly than women and 68 per cent
o f those surveyed recognized this
fact. In other words, women have to
work a little harder than men to
achieve the same weight loss.
•(4 )— I f your responses are any
thing like those o f the national aver
age, you have about a 50-50 chance
o f being right in this category. It is

Seafood Stew ;
Cheap and delicious
One o f the most versatile and frequently one o f the most m oderately
priced fishery products is fish fillets. There are many varieties to please
every taste and suit every occasion. Fish fillets are ready to cook, easily
digested, and arc power-packed with good n u tritio n . They are always a
good buy because these meaty, tender pieces o f fish are practically boneless,
and almost 100 per cent edible. Fish fillets are in a unique class both
nutritionally and economically.
This Seafood Stew with Cornbread Dumplings recipe combines the fillets
with sliced onions, partially-thawed mixed vegetables, canned mushrooms,
canned soup, and milk. Have you ever heard o f baking a stew7 This stew is
oven-baked to save you time and for your convenience. The grand finale is a
dum pling-topping made from a corn m u ffin mix and crisp bacon. The
succulent seafood stew can be ready to enjoy in approximately 35 minutes
cooking time. It is uniquely satisfying as well as hearty and we’ll wager that
this recipe is one you’ ll keep handy for ready reference in your favorite
recipe file.
