A recent sur­ vey conducted across the country by W eight W atchers In te rn a tio n a l asked this question and others to de­ termine current national awareness o f n u tritio n a l needs. T h e results were u n p red ictab le, o fte n sur­ prising, but before revealing them, here is an o p p o rtu n ity fo r you to test your own nutritional knowledge against the national average. N ow te s t you have answered tru e ” or “ false” to these ques­ tions, see t ow your responses stack up against the rest o f the country. *( 1)— If you answered " T ru e ” to question one, you were not alone. Over 61 per cent o f the Americans surveyed in ten m ajor cities includ­ ing San Francisco, A tla n ta and Washington, D .C ., also believe that exercise increases the appetite. A c­ tu a lly , this is in co rrect. U nder normal circumstances, exercise re­ duces your desire to eat and only serves to tone and tune your body. So the next time you get a craving to eat, take a walk instead. • (2 ) — W hat was your answer again? Over 37 per cent o f those ser- veyed said “ tru e ” when they shouldn’t have. Starch is a necessary part o f everyone’s diet. It is not the spaghetti but the fats in those heavy sauces and the b u tter or o il that should be avoided. •(3 )— I f you answered “ true” to this one, you are absolutely correct. M en do burn up calories more quickly than women and 68 per cent o f those surveyed recognized this fact. In other words, women have to work a little harder than men to achieve the same weight loss. •(4 )— I f your responses are any­ thing like those o f the national aver­ age, you have about a 50-50 chance o f being right in this category.
