C a rte r, a native o f Shreveport, I.a ., attended Grambling Slate U n i versity in Grambling, I.a., and after m oving lo P o rtla n d in 1967, re ceived a bachelor's degree from P o rtla n d Stale U n iv e rs ity . She is currently employed as a counselor- ad advisor u i« /., at P o rtla j n d C o m m u n ity College, Sylvania Campus. The mother o f nine children, she is also the d ire c to r o f the P acific Northwest Crusaders, a 47-membcr group composed o f Blacks, whiles and Nalive Americans. By no stretch o f the imagination is she passive. She is vocal, assert ive, and through her roles o f m other, counselor and perform er, has form ed some d e fin ite ideas about Blacks and the society that we live in.
