Every 1982 Datsun 310 comes
with rack-and-pinion steering, and
that’s good for some important rea
sons. For one, the steering is light
and precise. A small pinion gear at
the end o f the steering column oper
ates directly on a “ rack** o f gear
teeth that connects to the steering
arms. Turn the wheel one notch o f
the pinion and the rack moves exact
ly one notch. No more, no less. I t ’s
ideal fo r a h ig h-perform ance car
like this.
For another thing, the system is
direct so it gives you superb road
feel. Your sense o f control isn’t lost
