original Hebrew Isaelite Nation o f
Jerusalem have left America to re­
turn to “ Northeastern A fric a (Is­
rael)” and see the Holy Bible as a
history book.

Life in Dimona
The Black Hebrews o f Dimona
live about one hour and 45 minutes
from T e l-A viv by car. The Black
Hebrews have been living in Israel
for 13 years. Upon their arrival they
lived in apartment housing provided
by the Israeli government. Brother
Ahaion o f the Hebrew Community
described the living conditions as
overcrowded. “ In some cases there
were as many as 20 to 25 people liv­
ing in one a pa rtm e n t___A lso, in
some cases people had to sleep in
shifts due to the overcrowded condi­
tions.”
Today the people live on a parcel
o f land that is rented fro m the
government. The government also
provided a one-year grace period on
payment o f rent. This enabled the
people to better establish them­
selves, to become a productive com­
munity in a land 10,000 miles from
America and to establish friendly
ties within Israel.
The people live in houses made o f
stone and clay; the houses arc com­
plete with fresh running water, in­
door plumbing and some with elec­
tric ity . The government had con­
demned the house p rio r to renting
to the Hebrew C om m unity. The
houses were badly in need o f repairs
and in some cases the entire interior
o f some o f the units had to be
gutted. The necessary repairs have
been started. Among the Hebrew
Com m unity are people w ith car­
pentry, electrical, mechanical, and
other necessary skills. The houses
that I visited within the Community
were clean, neat and had the neces­
sary furnishings, i.e., chairs, sofas,
tables, beds. etc.
Communal living is important to
survival w ithin the Hebrew Com­
munity. The people see sharing as a
way o f life ; in some cases several
families live in one house but the
house is large enough to accomo­
date the families. The household re­
sponsibilities are divided among the
women o f the household.
