World Group, Inc., a New York based, Black-owned advertising agency has
created an advertising and promotion program for the Heublein Corpora
tio n ’ s most im p o rtan t brand. S m irn o ff Vodka. The cmpaign features a
popular mixed drink Sm irnoff Vodka and grapefruit juice. The creative di
rection o f the ads used the double-entendre m of ’ ’ M ain Squeeze.” a well-
known Black colloquialism fo r one’s best girlfrien d , as the name o f the
drink utilizing the assoication o f the grapefruit.
Public response to the campaign has been exceptional. The agency has re
ceived numerous calls and letters inquiring about the model. Karen Jacobs,
plus unsolicited photographs and letters from readers suggesting their own
" M a in Squeeze” candidates. Consequently. U niW orld saw an opportunity
to capitalize on the public’s enthusiasm and created a national contest to
find a new " M a in Squeeze” subject for the 1982 campaign, who would
come from the ranks o f the public rather than from professional modeling
agencies.

Staple Brothers
Once upon a time there was a band called the Staple Brothers Band. They
were considered the most popular gospel group in the northwest, per
forming in states such as Oregon, Washington, Idaho and California.
The group produced album s and 45 singles and perform ed in benefit
shows. They lived and played happily until the clubs put out a red alert bul
letin Top 40 dance club is looking to book high energy dance band, no
others need to apply.” The Staple Brothers heard the cries o f the clubs and
lo and behold, the Staple Brothers came to the rescue with pulsating dance
music that sizzled your feet.
The word got out that a new band was in town w ith a new concept o f
music called “ Monster F u n k.”
Listen to the Staple Brothers and experience the ultimate high, instant en
tertainment that will make you feel like dancing to good hot funk!
