Ainsworth and 30th Avenue, P ortland, Oregon. A m idst com m unity unrest and racial dissention, a positive state ment is being made by this action. Two churches o f d iffe rin g tra d i tions, religious heritage, and ethnic backgrounds are affirm ing that they can e ffe ctively w orship the Lord w ith in the confines o f the same structure. Both congregations are members o f the C entral Pacific Conference o f the United Church o f Christ. Second United Church o f Christ, founded in 1904, has been at the A in sw o rth address since 1930. H owever, changes In the demographic makeup o f the com munity has effected the membership o f ’ he Second. The result has been that much o f the b ea u tifu l and reverent, tw o -sto rie d, brick and stained-glass structure has not been fu lly u tilize d. T herefore, the congregation voted on March I, to share its facilities with St. Andrews, a sister congregation that is part of the demographic change.
