Harrison, Wilson wed in Portland Portland Observar January 16,1181 Paga 9 By Kathryn Hall Bogle Bright sunshine from a January sky cast a spring like warmth over this part of the land this past week end. The sunbeams augured for hap piness for E dith H arrison o f this city and for James Wilson, of New York C ity, when the two were wed in a qu iet cerem ony on S atu rd ay , January 3. Attending the couple were their frie n d s M r. an d M rs. G o rd o n McKay, and Michael H arrison, I2 year old son o f the bride. On Sunday, following, throngs of friends of the newly weds were in vited to greet the couple at a cham pagne reception in the Washington Room of the Red Lion Inn Jantzen Beach. For this affair, the new Mrs. W ilson w ore a lovely o ff-w h ite ankle length dress with dainty lace insets in bodice and full skirt. With her gown she wore a sheer long- sleeved ja c k e t an d a co rsag e o f delicate blue and white flowers at her waist. C e n te rp ie c e fo r th e w edding ta b le , c o lo r-k e y e d to blue and white, featured a bride and bride groom , creations out of sparkling ice. T he ch am p ag n e fo u n ta in kept glasses filled, the hot and cold hor d ’oeuv res w ere a b u n d a n t and together the Wilsons cut their four tiered blue and white wedding cake for their guests. Assisting with reception arrange ments were Sarah Martin and James and Edith Williams. B ecause they a re b o th career people, the newlyweds will defer a h o n eym o o n u n til som etim e in M arch during “ spring v acatio n ” when they plan to cruise in some tropic sea. Mr. Wilson, the father of an adult son an d d a u g h te r living in Baltimore, will return to New York after a few days in the Northwest. He is th e d istric t m an ag er for United Parcel Service in West New York state and is responsible for parcel deliveries in such cities as B u ffalo , R ochester, N iagra Falls and their environs. About 600 em ployees are under his direction. He has been with UPS for 17 years. M r. W ilson is w aiting fo r a benevolent transfer by his company to this area to allow him to be daily at the side of his bride. M rs. W ilson assum es her new duties this week as principal at the newly cre a te d H a rrie tt T u b m an Middle School in N ortheast P o rt land, called a “ sh o w c a se ” for school in te g ra tio n . Up until this momentous week, Mrs. Wilson was vice p rin cip al at Roosevelt High School for five years. She has been teaching in Portland public schools since 1962. A graduate o f Benedict College, M rs. W ilson m ajo red in art and taught art classes for six years at Jefferson High School in this city. Her experience has also included work with problem children in a school setting, career opportunity programs, and a position as director o f 50 te a c h e r-in te rn s for public schools in inner-city schools and correctional institutions. T he fam ily is se ttlin g in to an elegant b ran d -n ew hom e M rs. Wilson has just completed building in the Skyline district of Southwest Portland. A wedding heralding the 80s!
