A veteran perform er whose parents were in Budapest’ s L illip u tia n Theatre, M ich u attended a state-run C ircus School in H ungary where he learned the arts o f ju g g lin g , acrobatics, pantom im e and other circus basics. A fte r graduating he went to w o rk fo r the Liebel C ircus, a small traveling show, w ith w hich he served fo r 15 years as a clo w n , u n icyclist, announcer and dancer. W o rd o f his achievements reached Irv in Feld and Kenneth ’/«Feld, producers o f R ingling Bros, and Barnum & Bailey C ircus, and early in 1973 they visited H ungary in search o f M ich u . They fo u n d him in a village called L illip u t Faly (translated as “ the tow n o f sm all people” ) in a dark kitchen that they entered th ro u g h an alley up a flig h t o f stairs, passing tw o D oberm an Pinschers and a tied-up bear en route. Even tu a lly M ichu m aterialized and proceeded in that kitchen to give a dem on stra tio n o f his skills that prom pted the Felds to sign him up im m e d ia te ly fo r T H E C R E A TES T S H O H O N EA R T H M ich u came to A m erica know ing no E nglish, but today he has no tro u b le com m unicating. He inhabits specially scaled-down quarters on the 40-car silver Circus tra in and enjoys traveling and the challenging life o f the Circus. The d im in u tiv e e n tertainer likes the o u td o o rs and fis h in g , a lth o u g h it sometimes presents a problem when he hooks at big one. A frie n d recalls that once a p a rtic u la rly large fish to o k the b a it, h o o k, line, pole, and w o u ld have taken M ich u , had he not let go o f the fishing rod. L n se lfco n scio u s and o u tg o in g , M ic h u likes meeting the crow ds in the arenas and signing autographs. “ I understand that th e ir c u rio u s ity is n o r m a l,’ ’ says M ic h u , “ because I am a special person, and this w ill not change.
