H aggar-W arren. “ Y o u r itch may not be scratched, but you may be so busy that you forget i t , ” says the volunteer chairwoman o f Northeast Y W CA C o m m u n ity Relations Committee. A variety o f low-cost or free adult classes and special events and programs have begun at the North east YW C A . For those who overindulged during the holiday season, a nine- session slimnastics course w ill be o f fered beginning M onday, January 28th from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Participants w ill be given lots o f in dividual attention as they exercise to music and begin to feel better and look better. The fee w ill be $ 11 for Y W C A members. The YW CA membership fee is $15 per year. A Yoga course for relaxation will also be offered beginning Monday, January 28th from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Participants w ill be asked to wear loose, comfortable clothing and to bring a mat or large towel. The fee w ill be $13.50 fo r YW CA members. The N ortheast Y W C A w ill also offer members o f the community a chance to express themselves through the arts. A n O il Painting class w ill begin on Tuesday, January 29th from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. fo r six three-hour sessions. Class members w ill learn techniques o f painting and w ill finish two or more paintings ready to frame and hang on their walls. The fee w ill be $15 for Y W C A members. Y W C A members may learn how to make beautiful low-cost rugs in Rug B ra id in g , a two-session ''y ^ iH jjs h o p that w ill take place on Tuesday, February 5 and February 12th from 10:00 a.m. to noon. Par ticip a n ts w ill learn to make rugs from scraps, and some material w ill be available w ithout cost. The fee w ill be $2 fo r each session. The above classes are open to n o n members at a slightly higher fee. The N ortheast Y W C A has scheduled many.special programs *“ for the community. Those who wish to receive help with their sewing will fin d skille d vo lunteer in s tru c to rs tw o days a week at the Northeast Y W C A Sewing Center. Long cut tin g tables and excellent sewing machines are available for use. No fee is required fo r participation in the Sewing Center which is opened on Tuesdays fro m 12:00 to 3:00 p.m. and on Thursdays from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. The Brunch Bunch meets on Wednesday mornings at the N orth east and attends c o o kin g classes when in session. A t other times, the group shares ideas on food pre p a ratio n and n u tr itio n , often taking field trips to food specialty stores and going out in the country to get fresh foods in season. The N ortheast Y W C A Dekum doers is a group o f frie n d s who welcome new members. Dekum Doers schedules meetings in the evenings and on the weekends. Field trip s, discussions and social gatherings often include the family. For parents with high school age or slightly older children, the N orth east YW CA o ffe rs m o n th ly gatherings fo r their group. Young Parents Together. "G e t togethers” combine social activities with help in various areas in clu d in g parenting skills, n u tritio n , housing, em ployment, education and more. Tuesdays at D ekum C o u rt, a Y W C A program fo r residents o f Dekum C o u rt (N .E . 27th and Saratoga) and the neighborhood, meets at the Dekutn C o m m u n ity Center and sometimes jo in s ac tiv itie s at the N ortheast Y W C A Center. The group participates in c ra fts , fie ld trip s and o th e r ac tivities. The N ortheast Y W C A o ffe rs various programs fo r children and youth. A G ir l’ s Swim fo r seventh and eighth grade girls from Boise School is offe re d on Wednesdays fro m 3:15 p.m . to 6:30 p .m . The girls are picked up at Boise School by the YW CA van at 3:15 p.m. and swim at the do w n to w tn Y W C A fro m 4:00 to 5:00 p.m . G irls are returned to their homes a fte r the swim. A C h ild re n ’ s A fte r-S c h o o l Program is an arts and cra fts program o ffe re d at the Northeast Y W C A on Monday through T h u r sday from 3:00 t o -5:00 p.m . Arts and crafts, games, stories, movies, tu to rin g and w o o d w o rk in g are available. For those who w o u ld lik e to spend some time on a regular basis with a child who would benefit from the experience o f knowing another caring adult, the Norhteast YW CA has organized the Share a Day pro g ra m .
