When coach Brooks to o k the helm at the U n ive rsity o f O regon he made no rash promises, but said that O re gon had few p la y e rs o f P A C -IO caliber. A true statem ent. O regon has now recruited good, young players and w ill certainly sur prise a few teams this year. The Ducks w ill face perhaps their toughest schedule in years when they begin their 1979-80 season. The 2-9 D ucks o f '78 w ill open against C o lo ra d o and M ichigan State on th e ro a d . T h e n w ill face the W ashington Huskies at Autzen be fo re packing the ir bags fo r another fo ra y in to Big 10 c o u n try to play the n in e th ra n ke d B o ile rm a k e rs fro m P u rd u e . I t ’ s c o n ce iva b le th a t the D u cks c o u ld lose th e ir fir s t fo u r games against such fo rm id a b le op ponents. But w ith the talent and en thusiasm o f this D uck squad it's also in co n ce iva b le th a t it w ill happen. L o o k fo r the Ducks to bounce back and dow n the Huskies in Eugene. B rooks made no w ild o r brash p ro mises, but said o n ly that he w o uld recru it players w ith s k ill and q u ic k ness on offense, and size, speed and strength on defense. He has produced. O rego n, w ith young good ta le n t, is now on the horizon o f something big. O n defense the Ducks start w ith size, good size.
