fall? Leon Spinks has a lifestyle that
is surely detrim ental to any sporting
career. Spinks reportedly refuses to
tra in , keeps very late hours during
camp, and is said to frequent bars. It
was alleged that Spinks was seen in a
bar on the eve o f his cham pionship
fight w ith A lt having m ore than a
few drinks.

training was no doubt the m ain thing
that led to his latest defeat. L p o n en­
tering the ring one could easily see
that Spinks’ body was not fit. T he
muscle tone and d efin itio n that was
so obvious during the O lym pics and
A li fights was not there. In it ’ s place
was a small spare tire about one inch
thick.
T o say Spinks looked like a rank
a m a tu e r w o u ld be an u n d erstate­
m ent. T o infcT that he had a fight
plan w ould be misleading.
Coetzee expected Spinks to charge
like a b u ll, and he did H e (Coetzee)
also knew that Spinks could be had
by leading w ith his nght . . . that too
was true.
It was sad to see Spinks disposed
o f in such a hum iliating m anner and
even m ore so to have it come at the
hands o f South A fric a .
Spinks was taunted by many South
A fric a n spectators w ho dom in ated
the small crow d. Som e knocked at
the window and shouted “ k a f f ir .”
A frik a a n s fo r “ nigger.” It should be
noted that Coetzee him self was kind.
