OR. 97232, 231-4724 LORI SMITH M ICHELLE MITCHELL Sm ith seeks psychology career Achievement brings honor Lori Smith, the daughter o f Mr and Mrs. Hilton Smith, will be grad uated soon fro m W ilson High School. Aside from keeping up a commend able grade average, Lori has enjoyed many facets o f high school life on and o ff her campus. She has been a member o f the Trojanes Dance Team and became a teacher-assistant for them this year. Varsity volleyball oc cupied her time in her early days at Wilson, and she is now on the Spring Varsity Rally team. Lori, as a member o f the Student- Faculty Career Committee, helped to make recommendations as to how career information can be brought to students at Wilson. One o f L o ri’s unique experiences came to her when she was chosen as an exchange student to Finland by the American Field Service. L ori lived with a Finnish family for two months in Suonenjoki, a town noted for its delicious strawberries. She en joyed this visit very much and found her host family warm and helpful to her. Outside o f school at home, Lori is a member o f the Jack and Jill o f America Teen Group and has held the offices o f vice president and secretary. Lori was also presented by her parents at the Spring Starlight Cotillion held at the Sheraton Hotel by The Links, Inc. this season. Lori is active in the Bethel AM E Church Choir and the Usher group. She has studied the piano along the way and enjoys her music. College beckons in the fa ll fo r Lori, and she expects to study Child Psychology at New York University. NEY sponsors walk-a-thon Northeast YWCA w ill sponsor a Walk-a-thon and May Sale on May 19th to help northeast boys and girls raise funds to go to camp this sum mer. Hot dogs and punch will be sold at noon at 2105 N.E. Ainsworth, ac- T cording to Sherriann Warren, North east Area YWCA chairperson. Gar den tools, household articles and clothing w ill also be on sale. The Walk-a-thon in Alberta Park w ill be from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Michelle Mitchell, the daughter o f Mr. and Mrs. Ed Mitchell, came to P ortland from Chicago w ith her parents when she was very young. Michelle attended Woodlawn School but transferred to H oly Redeemer and now she is to be graduated from high school by St. M ary’ s Academy. Michelle was among the girls who were presented at the L in k ’s Star light C otillion in the early spring of this year at the Sheraton Hotel. Outstanding in her scholastic at tainm ents, M ichelle ranks 12th among the graduating seniors at the Academy and holds her membership in the National Honor Society. With a lively facility in the use o f Spanish, Michelle is a valued mem ber o f the Foreign Language Club; her poise in speaking before groups has been sharpened by her participa tion in the Speech Team and her singing voice is developed with the Academy Folk Group. There are other opportunities for music expression as Michelle sings with the Academy Glee Club and the H oly Redeemer A d u lt C hoir. She plays the oboe in St. M ary’ s Instru mental Ensemble and, after school hours, she is third oboeist for the M etropolitan Youth Symphony o f Portland. Other activities claiming some o f Michelle’ s time have been the Holy Redeemer Breakfast C lub, the S.M.A. Outdoors Club and the soc cer team. During all o f her four years at the Academy, Michelle has contributed toward her own parochial school tui tion by working a while each day in the school cafeteria, or the library. M ichelle learned to ride horse back last summer and she is looking fo rw a rd to this com ing summer when she expects to be called to show horses. W ith such a broad interest and with so much capability, Michelle thought o f Political Science or Psy chology for her college major, but she has now made a definite choice. This busy gir, has decided to major in Communications, and she will at tend Portland University to launch her college career. GIVE TO THE (DOTED NEGRO COLLEGE FUND.
