As provided by statute, the general public must pay fo r the 384-page book filled with facts, figures and pictures about Oregon’ s past and present. Due to increased printing costs, the price this year w ill be $3. The book may be purchased by mail or in person from the Secretary of State, Room 141, State C apitol, Salem 97310. For the first time in its 68-year-old history the Blue Book pays tribute to a woman, Mrs. Paulus noted. It is dedicated to Abigail Scott Duniway, whose early endeavors on behalf of equal suffrage paved the way for the future election o f a female Secretary o f State. A Warm Springs Indian woman is also featured on the cover o f the Oregon History chapter. The 1979-1980 book is divided into twelve chapters, one each on general inform ation; the executive, judicial and legislative branches o f govern ment; finances and institutions; edu cation and culture; economy and re sources; com m unication; counties and cities; national and interna tional; elections and constitution; and Oregon history. Several m a jo r addition s were made this year on the basis o f recom mendations received by the Secretary o f State's office. A selected list of cultural events or points o f interest in communities throughout the state was provided by the Oregon Historical Society. The Oregon his tory was rewritten by Gordon Dodds o f Portland State University. More material on Oregon’s economy and resources as well as additional statis tical charts, graphs and reference tables were also included. The roster o f Oregon agencies, boards and commissions was up dated through February 1st to reflect the change in adm inistration and subsequent change in officials, Mrs. Paulus said, but the p rin tin g schedule necessitated a c u t-o ff at that point.
