Killingsworth at Union Interstate Peninsula Northeast Coalition forms Tool Bank program Interest has been expressed in the Northeast Community in forming a cooperative or Tool Bank Program, which could lend the tools to neigh borhood residents to maintain their own property, like checking a book out o f the library. C arl D alton, employed by the Northeast C oalition o f Neighbor hoods, Inc., to coordinate a program o f this type. D alton is seeking donations o f tools from businesses, residents and n o n -p ro fit orga nizations, in order to establish a Tool Bank Program of this nature in the Northeast Community. Families, senior citizens, etc., need help as they attempt to restore decay ing properties, including old, large Victorian homes. At this time there is no place in the area to rent or borrow a tool. Some people arc older resi dents who are trying «0 remain in their homes as long as possible, but find this difficult when they cannot maintain the property. The problem is caused by the fact that many per sons cannot afford their own tools. These persons are able to perform much o f the m aintenance w ork required on their homes themselves. Thus if they had access to tools they would not require the services o f others in order to maintain their own property. As a consequence o f the lack o f access to tools many homes are not maintained to the standard desired by th e ir owners and the community as a whole. Tools that are needed include lawn mowers, hedge clippers, saws, lad ders, other carpentry tools, and plumbing tools. For further information interested persons should contact Carl Dalton, Northeast C oalition o f Neighbor hoods, Inc., Tool Bank Program, 4815 N.E. 7th Avenue, 248-4575, be tween the hours o f 9:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.
