LOMBARD 286-1669 Girls gather litter Camp Fire Girls w ill celebrate the 68th anniversary of their organization this week by gathering litte r from the streets. Camp F ire clubs will gather litte r from local streets between March 1st and 10th and take it to the Zoo on March 11th. There it w ill be picked up by SOLV and loaded into Oregon State Highway D e partm ent trucks. Each club w ill bring a birthday cake to the Zoo, where they will be put together near the elephant house to form a huge patchwork quilt-like cake. Camp Fire has been active in the Portland area since 1912...just two years after the organization was founded on the east coast. Last year alone, over 11,000 area girls and boys w ere served in some capacity by Camp F ire...eith er in a Camp Fire Club, a special program or the summer camping activities. The most recent addition to Camp Fire's family has been Blue Jays, boys in the first and second grades. Pilot projects are underway in several schools in Multnomah and Washington Counties. If they prove successful, the program will be opened to other young boys. Camp Fire programs are supported by the community through The United Way and the annual Candy Sale, just completed. S f Price Tax The new street light at Union and Failing is the result of a meeting between Albina F air Share members and Jim Wilson, City Bureau of Traffic Signals, and Alonzo Woods, Bureau of Mainten ance. Although the community had previ ously been told a light could not be installed for tw o months, the city officials promised the th irty residents assembled at the meeting that the light would be installed by March 8th.
