The hard hitting Banks hit 123 mare home runs than any other shortstop currently enshrined in the Hall of Fame. Bank's 512 career homers is only 42 fewer than the 554 total of the ten shortstops now in the Hall. Banks had a 21K lifetime batting iverage and won two consecutive Most Valuable Player Awards. Uoyd had a .362 lifetime batting average during his 27 year career in the old Negro League. Pete Maravich of the New Orleans Jazz has agreed to the salary section of a five year contract paying more than $700.000 a year. A Jazz spokesman denied that negotiations had been completed on a contract for Maravich, who lead the NBA in scoring last year with 31.1 points per game. The Sheriffs Reserve Academy is conducted in the Fall, with daaoes held on Tuesday and Thursday nights from 6:30 to 10:30 p.B. and an oceassonai Saturday session aa well. The Academy lasts far approximately seven months, and upon successful completion of the Academy, the individual fa eligible to be commis sioned as a Reserve Deputy Sheriff. Director of Public Safety. Reserve Deputies are citizens who volunteer 250 hours a year to assist regular officers with traffic control, home, business and school surveillance and other duties. The Reserve Deputies receive training at a special seven-month S heriff s Reserve Academy so that they can augment the regular force during peak periods, holidays, major attractions, disasters, large scale civil disturbances or unrest and other emergency situations that may anse. Thia program provides the citizens of Multnomah County with more than 14.000 hours of additional patrol time and in a significant opportunity for eommu arty service and citizen partiapatsoc in local law enforcement.
