Freda Walker wins State , goes to National
Freda W alker, a 16 year old student at
Jefferson High School, w ill be attending
the National Junior Olympics in Lincoln,
Nebraska on August 12-14 to compete in
the 100 yard dash.
This honor came as a result of Freda's
placing 1st in the 100 yard dash and 2nd
in the 220 yard dash in the State meet on
July 9th. arid 2nd in the 100 yard dash at
the Regional meet July 23rd at Madison
High School.
Three or four other students from
Portland w ere similarly honored w ith the
invitation to Lincoln's Olympics, but due
a shortage of financial resources, the kids
will have to get together and decide
which lucky tw o or th ree w ill actually get
to travel to Nebraska to compete.

A junior at Jefferson this coming fall,
Freda spent last year as a gym aide, and
was heavily involved in Jefferson's P ar
forming A rts Program as a dancer. She is
mainly interested in modern and W est
Indian dancing, but doesn't restrict her
interest to them . She is also t h in k in g o f
her future, and entertains ideas of be
coming involved in police w ork, or even a
