W estern playoffs. Portland Trail Blazers vs D enver Nuggets. Officials M anny Sokol and E a rl Strom walked an court and received a loud ovation from the over aealous Portland fans. This had to be an N J L A . first, and believe me by the th ird q uarter those cheers had turned to jeers. In game four the Blazers came out Red Hot and Boffin.' They raced quickly to a K M lend. Portland led throughout the contest once by as many as fifteen in the th ird quarter Speedy Lionel Hollins turned on his a fte r burners in the th ird q u arter and to this q uarter Hollins was tru ly Red Hot and Rollin'. Lionel a t one point raced past Price and Calvin, flew to the hoop, then dished off to T w ard xik for an easy layup. Hollins scored off th e break and bit soft arching jum pers from outside. H e was doing it all. _ Blazers are bow 3-1 and rem em ber. I predicted Portland in five. Game four, like all the others, was a team effort. Bobby G rom has continued to impress. Gross is playing small forw ard like there's no tom orrow. And w e do appreciate and love it. So. Bobby. Go!! D avid Thompson and Dan laeel have accounted for almost exactly half of D eaver's playoff points against the T ra il Blazers. When yen stop Thompson, as the Blazers did. you almost always stop D enver. Thompson is averaging 28 points a game in the series to pace all scorers oo both clubs. So you can see the impace it wifi have oo the Nuggets when he doesn't score. Hollins, we know, has been in consust ent foul trouble during the playoffs, and it would be really tough for Lloyd Neal. Robin Jones or W ally W alker to play 40 minutes. W ally Weaker, before Tuesday night's game, had draw n 11 fouls in just 27 minutes. W ally , at this point m his rookie season, seems to over-react, or just m erely loses concentration. When he doesn't concentrate be commits fouls too frequently. LJoyed Neal just simply needs more playing tim e, and eith er Robin Jones gets really sky high upon entering the game. And that's real fine. Jackson High Senior W illy M ayafi led a contingent of runners from the Oregon Road Runners Club tO RRC) to the finish of the 61st annual Boston M arathon, held A pril 18, in Boston Running in his th ird marathon the had run Sauvie Island tw ice, last November qualifying for Boston). W illy completed the 26 mile. 385 yard course in 2 hrs.. 49 minutes, which placed him in the first 300 finishers. This is quite an accomplish ment. when considering the field which started the race numbered nearly 3.000 participants H e was also the first ORRC runner to finish the course. .After the race, when almost all the runners w ere complaining of sore mus des. blisters. heart failure, and other various aches and pains.
