The moving, hour-long tribute to America’s Black heritage was under written by the Bell System and is part of its campaign, "Communications in Black Culture.” The film was produced by the Peterson Company of Los Angeles and the Uni- World Group. Directed by Eric Karson. the film was shot on location in Louisiana, and New York. The Petersen Company, in association with Brock Peters, pro duced the popular film, “Five on the Black Hand Side.” * * * mm I Bible ST. Lewis’ long and personal experience with the Black church served as the creative source for the film. Says Lewis, "My church was the window beyond the narrow confines of my tiny Black community.” Diahann Carroll and other key personali ties of the Hollywood film industry. Amabassador Andrew Young, the new ly appointed U.S. Representative to the United Nations, will be the honored guest at a reception at the United Nations on February 15th. The New York premiere honors Ambassador Young, who as a minster, civil rights leader and former member of Congress, illustrates how the Black church as impacted America. And the Kennedy Center» in the nation's capitol will be the setting of the final gala. Transported to America, the enslaved griot becomes the plantation storyteller, then the emanci pated preacher and, finally, today’s Black minister and leader. The Black church became the vehicle for preserving Black culture in a strange land.
