Since then, the Helm has been busy finding proper seating to accomodate the customers. Ellison had been based in San Francisco tinea childhood. It's suprising that I had never heard of them prior to their engagement at Ray’s Halm Club. Ona thing for sure, I won't forget them anytime soon. They are accomplished musicians who blend very well together. The fortunate thing about remaining with one group of musicians over a period of time is the timing, harmony and style that they eventually create among themselves. Often the musicians cannot fully explain why or how a certain innovation came about. In the case of the Mel Ellison Quintet, he summed it up in one word - practical Listening to them play, it to obvious that they’ve had a lot of i t Chuck Medcalf to on bam. Dan Dillon on piano, Robert Freeberg to on drums and leader of the group, Mel Ellison, to on tenor aaxaphone. Collectively, they have a very good sound. I think as they gradually move around the country and expose their talents, the more receptive their audiences will be and the more popular they will become.
