Jackson High School: 2:00, Hamilton Park The music for these con certs is provided by a grant from the Music Performance Trust Funds, a public service organisation created and Financed by the Recording Industries under agreements with the American Federa tion of Musicians On Wednesday. August 7th. the Western Forestry Center has arranged a bus tour to the Forest Research Facility in Centralia. Wash ington. The tour will leave at 9:00 a.m. and return by 5:00 p.m., and is open to the public. Cost of the tour is $7.00 and includes lunch and trans portation by air-conditioned bus. Other forest tours for 1974 include: August 14 - Castle Rock Spirit Lake M t. St. Helens; August 21 - Tree Farm at Black Rock and Gerlinger State Forest; August 28 - Largest wood products plant in the world. Longview, Washington: September 7 - Columbia Gorge M t. Hood Loop; September 28 - Fall color tour. Clackamas River and Mt. Hood Loop. Reservations are a must! Call the Western Forestry Center at 228 1367. The Black Student-Black Faculty Alliance, and the Black educational process at Portland State University are petitioning the Portland School Board to develop a Black Studies program at Jefferson High School that will introduce all students to the history and achievements of persons of African beri Uge. The var ious openings call for volun teers to help: the public with selections for adoption; receive animals and adopt out animals; groom unsightly animals; keep up animal barnyard; with investiga tions: with maintenance - indoor and outdoor; with yard work; assist janitor, the secretaries and receptionists; assist Humane Education Department as speakers for Humane Education in schools and community meetings, representatives at display booths, writers for news releases, artists, fund raisers, and more. Volunteers must be 16 years of age and should plan to spend at least one day a week at the shelter. August 4th, with a performance in Laurelhurst Park at 2:30 p.m. Other performances will be on Monday, August 5th. in Washington Park at 8:30 p.m.; Tuesday. August 6th. in Sellwood Park at 7:30 p.m.; Wednesday. August 7th, at the Voicano Theatre in M l Tabor Park at 7:30 p.m.; and Thursday. August 8th. downtown in Lownsdale Square at 5:00 p.m. and in Columbia Park at 7:30 p.m. Selections for the week s programs will range from the music of J.S. Bach to the sounds of The Carpenters. Conductor John Keil Richards has chosen works by M exi can. European and American composers, including several of John Philip Sousa's most popular marches. Trumpeter Fred Sautter will be featured as a soloist in the "Rose Variations" by Robert Rus sell Bennett. The free concerts are sponsored jointly by the City of P o rtlan d. M ultnom ah County, and the Music Per forma nee Trust Fund of the Recording In d u s trie s ad ministered through Musicians Union Local 99. the school board to modify its hiring policies to increase the percentage of Black teachers and counselors at Jefferson and other com munity schools. Petitions will be located in the Black Studies depart ment. Portland Slate Uni versity. and also at most churches and businesses in Albina. The Citizens Commission on Human Rights. Psychta trie Violations invites the public to come forward and give evidence before the Commission of known viola lions of Human Rights. The Commission convenes every Wednesday night at 8:00 p.m. at 4112 N.E. Sandy Blvd. I t is a non-govern mental organization and full privacy of the individual will be respected. I f anyone cannot or does not wish to make a personal appearance, the Commission will receive case histories of psychiatric abuses in writing. The type of information sought is violations of com mitment procedures, viola tions of the Universal Declar ation of Human Rights, vio lations of the Nuremburg Code, and inhumane treat ment of mental patients.
