T he Blacks w h o accept m ore a p p o in tm e n ts th a n th e y can handle are s u p p o rtin g a syste m o f e x p lo ita tio n and lies th a t th e Black c o m m u n ity does not need. I t o n ly enhances th e fe e lin g o f pow erlessness to th in k th a t th in g s do not change even w h e n th e re are Black re p re s e n ta tiv e s p re sent. W e c a n 't blam e the "m a n ". It's up to th e Blacks to recognize th e ir ow n tim e lim ita tio n s and th e "m a n 's" game plan. Those on Boards p re s e n tly should p u t a h a lt to th e game p la y in g by sug g e s tin g some o f th e o th e r ta le n te d and w illin g b ro th e rs and siste rs in th e hanks, p u b lic schools, p riv a te busi nesses, Black homes, col leges, and o th e r places when th e n e x t w h ite person ap proaches them fo r an ap p o in tm e n t. I f th e a p p oint m e n t o f the o th e r b ro th e r and s is te r is n 't made, ask y o u rs e lf w h y. I f th e ego w ill a llo w , th e re m ay be some a n sw e rs th a t a re n ’t to ta lly fla tte rin g . W e c e rta in ly need Blacks on B oards and C om m issions o f a ll types. L e t's ju s t spread it o u t a lit t le m ore. T h e re w ill be m ore Blacks in v o lv e d in a necessary p ro cess and increased changes fo r a m ore th o ro u g h jo b o f p ro te c tin g Black in te re s t w ill be m ore e v id e n t. F o r the Blacks who a re p o litic a lly m o t iv a t e d , in th e o ffic e h o ld in g sense, i t is reco g nized th a t th e y m u s t rem a in in th e s p o tlig h t ju s t as th e ir w h ite c o u n te rp a rts have done and m ust do. N e v e rth e le s s , even those persons m ust select th e a p p o in tm e n ts th a t w ill g ive the m ost v is ib ility m ileage and th e n recom m end o th e r b ro th e rs and siste rs fo r th e re m a in d e r. T h e re ju s t is nii excuse fo r the non p o lit ic a l c o lle c t o r of " m e r it badges". W e m ust r id o u rs e lv e s of th e “ m e rit badge" s yn d ro m e . It's th e old “ b u t y o u 're the e xce p tio n " game. He appeals to the im p o ve rish e d egos of in d iv id u a l Blacks by ta lk in g a b o ut w h a t fin e in d iv id u a ls th e y are. W h a t u su a lly fo l low s is some sta te m e n t, in ference, o r in n u e nd o about th e “ o th e r B la cks". You w ill note th a t th e O reg o n ia n has been ru n n in g fe a tu re s on some o f o u r fin e Black w o men. I t 's p a rt o f th e same gam e o r m e n ta lity .
