April 29th, from 2 to 5 p.m. at The Western Forestry Center's Exhibit Hall. 4033 SW Canyon Rd„ near OMSI. Reflecting the Links' na tional programs. "Services To \ outh" and "Freedom and the Fine Arts'", thereby en couraging and motivating all young people to pursue their talents, both in the visual arts and the performing arts, the fe stiva l w ill revolve around the them "A Message To Our Youth - Press On Persistence and De termination Alone Are Omni potent". An art exhibition, display ing many forms of art work, including paintings, ceramics, and calligraphy, w ill be fea tured by young people of all racial groups and cultures. Performing arts w ill also be featured. The art exhibition w ill be composed of works by stu dents from Roosevelt. A display of ceramics by Karey Guy, who is an art student at Portland Com munity College will be fea tured. In addition, calli graphy students from the YWCA youth class, under the direction of Lesley Un thank will demonstrate their works and talents, and Lea ley w ill offer a demonstration of ntacrame. Presentation of a book, “ Biography of Martin Luther King. Jr." to King School and St. Helen's Hall Lower School, w ill be a part of the program, and representatives from each school w ill be present to accept this gift. This is a continuation of the Links' interest in presenting suitable books to the various school libraries in the Port land area. The author of the book is Beth T. Wilson of Berkeley, California and a member of the Oakland Bay Area Chapter of Links, Inc The book is geared primarily for elementary school read ing and is specifically aimed at the third grade reading level. The performing arts will feature the Roosevelt High School s trin g Ensemble. under the direction of Mr. Michael Verbout; and Indian dunce by Pam Morin of St. Mary’s School; a violin solo by Bill Dawson, who attends Madeline School; a piano selection by Cheryl Davis; a troubadour harp played by Sharon Vickers; a classical guitar by Lance Brown, a student at Bishop Dagwell Hall; as well as other selec tions from various young people. Mrs, Walter Sayles is President of the orgaiuza lion, which was founded in 1946 and now has 116 chap ters in 34 states. Mrs. Walter Reynolds is coordinator for the Sunday festival and tea. with Mrs Edward Johns, Mrs. Webster Brown and Mrs. W alter Davis assisting. Mrs. Conrad Met onnell is the chairman.
