About th irty-five years ago, a m inister, 1 be lieve It was a Methodist pas tor, in M issouri, had a strong faith in C h rist, but was much concerned because he wts unable to work any of the m iracles of C h rist. This m inister was much impressed by the quotation of Jesus In the last chapter of The Gospel of M ark, as follows: “ He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned. And those signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils’ they shall speak with new tongues; They shall take up serpents; snd If they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on tl» sick, snd they shall recover,” M ark 16:1618. According to M ark these were the last words of the risen C hrist before "H e was re ceived up into Heaven. My whole compreîension of the Message of Christ in the Gospels is that to truly be lieve in Christ means to believe In Him enough to be lieve His words are ture. And If we study His words carefully we know that fol- lewers and disciples are commanded to obey "every jot and title " of His instruc tions. M an 5:17-20; M a n . 7:21-26; M a n . 28:19-20. To believe that Jesus C hrist Is the Saviour, and not believe that He spoke the words of God, the Father, gave Hun to speak to men as Imperative instructions for them to obey, is a paradox and a travesty. The divorce rite In this country rose to 11 divorces fo r every 17 m arriages. In one area of sunny C a li fornia there are 4 divorces fo r every 3 marriages and I haven’t managed to fit that together yet.
