Morse hits Nixon on Social Security Form er Senator Wayne M orse sakl Wednesday the Nixon Administration " is talking out of both sides of Its mouth on Social Security Increases." Speaking to a group of senior citizens at 0 « Shrunk- Rlverskle I owersMorse said, "Nixon told Congress 1» would veto anything over a ten percent Increase. "Congress had to attach the 20 percent Social Security |<ay Increase to another bill tliat Nixon wouldn’ t dare veto be fore he would sign It." Morse added, "And now 1» Is taking credit for the Increase." Morse explained tliat each leneflt check for next month w ill 1» accompanied by a message from the Brea Idem which states that 1» signed into law tlie provisions for the past 20 percent increase and automatic cost of living increases, "Making It look like Nixon's leadership was responsible fo r these le re fits .” Morse said tliat if le was In the Senate, le would have fought for a $3,600 minimum Social Security allowance, "b ecau se giving elderly people anything less than tlet would be forcing them to live In poverty.
