I was always looking foi som ething,(what it was I don’ t knowj. A ll of the hardships and fa ilu re s that 1 encountered re a lly made me begin to give up. O f t e n , I thought to m yse lf "W h a t's the use? Teenagers aren’ t sup posed to w a s te th e irliv e s ; they are always supposed to have fun and not w o rry about any thing o r anybody but them selves.” But one day I was so "d ow n In the du m ps" that Sa tan could have e a sily walked into my life and taken o ve r. In stead, thank God, He came along ju s t In tim e . F ro m then on 1 realized that G o d was a ll 1 needed to "g e t b y ." Sudden ly I fe ll on m y knees and ju s t praised God fo r his goodness and m ercy. I ’ ve never thought of m yse lf as being a " Black C h ris tia n *’ but s im p ly a C h ris tia n . L ik e other C h ris tia n s 1 believe in God the F a th e r and Jesus. When 1 go to church on Sundays 1 never con sid er m yse lf any d iffe re n t fro m anyone else. not as man sees: man looks on the outward appearance but the L o rd looks on the h e a rt." But in spite of th is man cannot help but "Ju dg e a Book by It's Cov e r." M AR Y HOOKER Because w e 're a ll the same in the sight of God. It makes no d iffe re n ce whether we are ric h o r poor, black o r w h ite. B u t as I stop and think, I can see that being " A Black C h ris tia n " is v e ry Im portant to m e . Because it helps me relate to the B lacks in a way that the w hites w ill never be a b le to. B ut, we should a ll rem em ber what is w ritte n in I Samuel 16:7, when the L o rd said to Samuel, " D o not look on his appearance o r on the height of his sta tu re , because I have re jected him ; f o r the L o rd sees I wish so v e ry much that I could get people to see that re ligio n has no c o lo r. T hat as fa r as God is concerned we are all the same. That " I n m y F a th e r's house are many man sions, (John I4;2), but w e’ve a ll got to go d o w n the s a m e road to get to them a ll. 1 feel that I have to be a strong one fo r the weak. I want to shout out and te ll the w o rld that God is not dead, but H e's s t ill a liv e ! I know because he liv e s in me. I hope to get people to see that if we've made it th is fa r, w ith the L o rd ’ s guidance we can make it on to the P rom ised Land. I wouldn’ t give up s e rv ing God fo r a ll the rich es in the w o rld . I'm going to prophecy fo r him as long as H egives me the strength to goon.
