Javits has been exploring the m atter in corresponience with the Navy since a young women expressed to him her desire to attend the academy. A spokesman fo r the Navy informed him that the re is "no s tric t la w " against it, hut the laws governing admissions to Annapolis re fe r to "s o n s " of naval personnel and to "e n listed men” . The law does preclude women from serving on combat ships and a irc ra ft "and that’ s what the academy trains men fo r” . Javits said he w ill continue j to press the issue.
