P a rt 1
by Kay L . Haraguchl, RA'.
With the hectic pace and
stresses
ot modern life ,
most of us are afflicted from
lime to time with nervous
tension and all the discomforts
and disorders which ac
company
it. While it is
neither reasonable nor desir
able to eliminate all tension;
we do wish to eliminate the
chronic ones. Chronic ten
sion keeps us awake, makes
us grouch with ourlcved ones,
causes jo in t and muscle pa ins,
as well as high blood pressure
and other disorders.
There are simple tech
niques which all can follow
to greatly ease nervousness
One w ill be presented today,
another next week.
When you find yourself
hassled,
withdraw
within
yourself to a place of peace.
If you can withdraw physically
fo r five minutes. It is helf-
ful, but not necessary. Decide
on a mental sanctuary. P er
haps a beautiful place you once
visited, it could be a garden
a lake, a church, a mountsm-
lopj any place where you teel
at peace. Build your sanctuary
in your mind. A good time to
do this is just before going to
sleep. Visualize it as com
pletely as you can. Then, when
life ’ s situations get you "u p
tig h t", close your eyes foi a-
bout five minutes. Journey
within yourself to your secret
place of beauty and peace.See
youself sitting or lying down,
feel, hear and smell the place.
Let the peace sink into your
mind and txxly. A hen you feel
sufficiently
refreshed, vis
ualize yourself leaving
the
sanctuai-y and returning to
the w orld. Then open your
eyes.
As previously mentioned,
you can go o ff to the lock
er
room at work or at
school. You could go to your
bal room at home. However
helpful,
this is not totally
necessary. Often you can
simply remain where you
are fo r a one minute trip
to
your
private
place.
T ry frequent peace breaks
Make them a habit fo r a
week or so. You’ ll find your
self calm er and also better
able to cope with your life .

Jefferson High School now
is host to 29 children five
days a week. This came about
because this year Jefferson
has opened it ’ s own Child
Care Center.
The center is located on
Jefferson’ s A flo o r (bottom
level) and is located in the
old electronic’ s shop,
The
center consists of two Play
rooms of large size, a bath
room, and an office. The
center also has a re frig e ra to r

supplies.
The playrooms are two
separate rooms, which are
separated by a door. In the
fir s t room there are mostly
quiet play things. One w ill
find a doll house, puzzles,
small peg boards, a science
corner, and books fo r reading.
The
other playroom Is
called the a ctivity room, and
has active toys m aily. The
toys consist of a clim b e r, a
slide, a tee-tooter, blocks,
small toys fo r playing, eases!
fo r painting and tables fo r
