Recently, however, the number of spaces available to Oregon and Idaho enlistees has increased dra m a tica lly." 4 If you are interested in the career optxntunities offered by the navy ask your local navy representative about the more than 72 different trade spe cialties available today. Re quirements are that you be from 17 to 30 years of age and pass the physical examin ation required fo r all armed forces applicants. W ith the recent pay increase authorized by congress, es pecially fo r ju n io r personnel, navy pay is becoming increas ingly competitive w ithcivilian industry. P h il R eynolds A t a banquet fo r the Railroad Senior Citizens Association last week M r. Phil Reynolds was chosen as Senior Citizen fo r 1971. Known as ,*Chlef*, among his intimate friends, M r. Reynolds was active in community and national o r ganizations. He was father of the NAACP Federal C redit Union, and is a past president of the NAACP chapter of P ort land. F o r many years M r. Rey nolds was a supervisor for the Red Caps at the Union Station and also kept himself txisy by devoting his time to working with the Urban League. M r. Reynolds and his wile, E lsie , have three boys and one g ir l. He is a charter mem ber of the Railroad Senior C it izens Association of Portland and is greatly loved by a ll. PSU schedules annual accounting Muse speaks to NAACP Portland On Friday, November 12th, the Portland Branch, NAACP, w ill hold a special meeting at 7:30 pm with M r. Edward B. Muse, D ire cto r of the Life Membership division of the national NAACP staff in New York C ity, as the speaker. The headquarters at 2752 N .W il liams Avenue. In an a rticle published by Ebony Magazine, NAACP Life members were called the "H onor Guard of the N AA C P". D r. Loyd Heath, professor of accounting at the University of Washington, w ill be key note speaker at the fourth annual accounting conference sponsored by the National Association of Accountants and the Schools of Business Adm inistration of Portland Sute U niversity and the University of Portland. The all-day conference w ill run from 8:30ajn.to4:15p.m . Thursday, November 18, in the ballroom of the Portland H il ton Hotel. D r. Heath, a form er project manager in the research d iv i sion of the American Institute of C ertified Public Accounts, w ill take up the question, "W hy Do People C ritiz e Accounting Reports7"at the noon luncheon. The o ve r-a ll theme of the conference is "D a u Process ing Information fo r Planning and C o n tro l". Other speakers w ill be D r. A rth u r A . Schulte J r , execu tive vice president. Muse is re sponsible fo r coordination oí the NAACP’ s Life Membership program in the organizations's numerous branches throughout the na tion. His background includes more than 25 years experience in social work and c iv il rights work as both a professional and a volunteer. P rio r to joining the NAACP staff, M r. Muse held an administrative position with the United Hias Service - the international Jewish migration agency. Be fore that, he was a reseirch assistant a t the Columbia U niversity Bureau of Applied Social Research, where he participated in studies on at titudes between racial, re li gious and ethnic groups. As a volunteer, M r. Muse has held high positions with the New York C ity Branch of the NAACP and was founder of the Greenwich Vtllage- Chelsea Branch. He is a past president of the Greenwich- V illage - ChelseaCpenNeigh borhood Committee an o r ganization founded to combat racial and religious bias in the rental and sale of apart ments. He is a form er pres ident of the GreenwichVillage Brotherhood Committee. A World W a rll veteran,.Mr. Muse studied at Columbia U niversity and received his BA and MA degrees in Soc iology, and has studied to ward his PhD. at New York School fo r Social Research.
