Wash 98104 Tele phone 206-442-4552 A dditionally, at the request of the Office of Emergency Preparedness, the Internal Revenue Service GRSi has agreed to establish bureaus in its field offices in 203 cities around the land to help handle complaints about the wage-price-rent freeze The bur eaus w ill be called "L o ca l Service and Complaint Centers " The IRS said the bureaus, which can be reached through telephone numbers of IRS field offices listed in local telephone books, would re ceive, analyze, and investigate com plaints. Mack died at his home August 18. He had resided In Portland for the past twenty years, where he was employ ed at the Industrial School for the Blind. He Is survived by his moth e r, Alma Johnson, Baton Rouge, Louisiana; siste r, W ll- lln ia s Henderson, Portland; three nieces: Em ily Randle^ l ’ a trtcla Taylor, and Wllhe- mena Harvey, all o f P ort land, and a couslm, Irene Gibbons of l ’ortland. Interment was at Columbian Cemetery. Atlanta, Texas, July 4, 1908. He dual at a local hospital August 18. He has twen em ployed by the Oregon State Employment Service, in the Portland office, fo r approxi mately 25 years. He was a member of St. P hillips Epis copal Church. He was grad uated form P ra irie View A & M College, P ra irie View, Texas, in 1931, where he serv ed as student body president of the college and graduated Sum ma Cum Laude. He majored in education. Under the law, Montezuma County can only levy a tax o f three m ill s fo r welfare. The county lias now run out o f this fund. Arecent poll showed only 47 I percent of the Independent bu- I slness people In favor,despite I the fact local tax burdens I have become a crushing load I on local communities. F o rty- ■ four percent voted opposition ■ with the balance undecided. I But Montezuma county and ■ several Individual citizens of I that farming area are suing I the Colorado Department of ■ Social Services which runs I welfare In the state, to a- 1 void being saddled with more I costs of welfare adm lnlstra- I tlon. Adding to the situation I Is the fact that the State of I Colorado is going to sue I nearby Weld County because I the board of supervisors there ■ has decided to pull out of any ■ participation In the welfare I program. I Montezuma County, whose I county seat Is Cortez, la I an agricultural county of I 13,000 people, but lt Is cu r- I re n tly supporting a welfare I staff of fourteen people, and I the state Is seeking to force I them to bring this total up I to 21 people. I According to the county I c le rk ’ s office there are 457 I in the county on old age pen- I slons, 137 fam ily units In the I I aid to dependent children pro- I gram, 62 adults with a total I o f 113 children on another pro- I gram, 32 adults on the aid to I unemployed fathers of depen- I dent children, 25 clients fo r I day care, 21 clients In foster I homes for child welfare, 1 I tuberculosis patient, 65 needy I disabled, 9 on general assls- I tance which takes In medical care, eyeglasses and s im ila r , matters, and as of the last Z report there were no blind I on the ro lls . V This apparently adds up to \ a total of 700 cases, cu rre n t ly being handled by a staff of 14 which Includes a director o f welfare, a casework super v is o r, 6 caseworkers, a food stamp cashier and various other title s.
