But it is an important develop­

The observation can help in the

against
respiratory
diseases.
One of the specific problems Or.
Harbord is concerned with is ate­
lectasis, a condition which in­
volves a collapse of the a ir sacs of
the lungs.
In humans, there are
300
m illio n a ir sacs in each lung,
where oxygen and carbon dioxide
are exchanged.
