He made a short pendu lum for the little clock so the pendulum could swing back and forth quickly. When the clock was finished he said to It " I want you to strike a million tim es." He placed the little clock a lo n g s id e the large Grandfather clock. The little clock was so excited It said to the Grandfather clock "Old you hear what he said to me, little me strike a million times and I am so little? I cannot do It, that Is too many times for one little clock to s trik e ." The Grandfather clock wisely ad vised the little clock that the clockmaker did not mean to strike a million times without stopping but to take time as It comes, strike one and at the hour of two strike two and so on as the hours come. In the course of a life tim e you will strike more than a million tim es. If you try to strike It all at once you will never make It. Tim e is of the greatest es s e n c e In our lives. We stop people on the street and ask people at work "What time Is It." Some of us hurry as If we had to strike a million times In one day while others keep going steady and keeping pace each minute of the day. It Is true that most all of us become Impatient when things seem so slow In coming and we wish the time w o u ld hurry. Isn’t It strange that when you are doing some thing you like tim e seems to go so fast and when you are doing something you do not like time seems to go so slow? This with in Itself Is a balance of tim e. Shortcuts are the hopes of most of us today. The system Is being questioned as to why do we have to spend so much time to earn a degree In school? Why do we have to spend so many years of apprenticeship on some jobs and professions? Why must we study so long to be considered trained for certain jobs? The advice of the grandfather clock may well St. M ark Baptist Church 9S FIRST A.M.E. ZION CHURCH 10 9 N. Skidmore Street Reverend L.J. If we try to do everything at once we may not do anything well, but those who would do well would keep the time and set the pace each day. The Poem " I f " has a word of wisdom on the use of time: " If you can fill the unforgiv ing minute With sixty seconds* worth of distance run Y o u r s Is the Earth and everything that's In It, And-whlch Is more-you’ll be a Man, my sonl SEARCHING By G.
