1G THE MORNING OltEGONIAN, THURSDAY, OCTOBER G, 1921 SMS SHIP CHARTERED SCHOONEIl TO CARRY LIMBER ACROSS PACIFIC. Jvt . W. , Ostrandcr to Sail AVllh Cargo . for Japan Another Wind Jammer Coming. Charter of the American schooner Levi W. Ostrander, 1501 tons net reir luter, to carry a cargo of lumber and logs from Coos bay to Japan was an nounced yeBterday by th Pacific Kx port Lumber company of this city. She will be the first vessel to load off-shore at the new port terminal of Marehfield and North Bend and will also be the first calling; vessel in many years to take a cargo from this section of the Pacific ccast to the orient. The charter for the schooner was closed last Saturday and the vessel is already on her way to her loading berth. She left Winslow. Wash., Tues day night in tow for Coos bay. Un der the terms of the charter-party the Pacific Export Lumber company pays the schooner's owner a lump sum, the amount of which was not made public. and assumes all rinks and costs. White cedar logs will constitute a large part of the cargo, the remainder of which will consist of lumber. The Bailing schooner William Tay lor, operated by the Columbia -Facifio Shipping company, came up the river yesterday from Astoria to the port of Portland drydock, where she will undergo cleaning and paint ing. It was announced by the opera tors yesterday that she will load lum ber trans-Pacific. The announcement contains no surprise for water-front interests, however, for "trans-Pacific" may mean anything from Honolulu, T, H., to Durban, South Africa. SrCCH TIMBER IS SALVAGED Further Work on Canadian Ex porter May Require Dynamite. SOUTH BEND, Wash., Oct. 5. (Special.) Speculation is rife around Wlllapa harbor as to whether Cap tain J. C. Jensen will resort to dyna mite In an attempt to salvage the in accessible timbers stowed away in the hull of the wrecked Canadian Ex porter. So far Captain Jensen has succeeded in rescuing 00,000 feet of timber and most of the fittings from the hulk, which is stranded In Shoal water bay, near the entrance to Wll lapa harbor. It has been suggested that with i flood tide in good weather the hull could be dynamited In such a way that the remaining timber would be cast adrift. This could be picked up by small boats and towed to Toke- land, inside the harbor. The wreck has been settling In the and, and although the weather has been fair on the harbor lately, the ship is so far out from shore and is so exposed that it is questionable whether more work can be done aboard her. The dynamite has been suggested as a last resort to aalvage the 1,250,000 feet of Jap squares which remain In the bull. California arrived at the Portland Flour ing Mil: dock at 11:30 A.
