Saturday's Ir regular recovery was extended 1 to 3 DointM at the nDenlns: or today's market, but reversals in which many ad- vances were more man canceiea occurrea before midday and a heavy tone ruled at the close. The more vulnerable Issues comprised oils, motors, steels, equipments, sugurs. shippings, textiles and mail order shares. Reaction from best prices ranged from 2 to 5 points, metals alone holding part of their advance. Higher type rails, notably transcontinen tal and coalers, also were reactionary un der lead of Canadian Pacific and Reading, but secondary or reorganized properties were relatively steady. Sales amounted to 465,000 shares. New advices over the week end were mixed. Favorable influences were a heavier movement of graina to market and a reduction in the number of idle freight cars. Motor stocks were again under pressure. Record low prices were quoted for crude and refined products, notably sugar and rubber. Mexican oils reacted. The money market was featureless, call and time rates being unchanged. Moderate strength in foreign exchange was ascribed mainly to prospects of early settlement of the British miners' strike. Dealings In bonds were light but steady to firm for the most part. Including liberty Issues and convertible rails. Internationals also showed irregular Improvement, but Cuba Cane Sugar 7s weakened with the slock. Total sales, par value, $10,050,000. Merchants' Exchange, noon session: BITTER STORING HEATY IN WEEK Dealers' Operations Are Chief Support of Eastern Market. The eastern butter market was steady and quiet during the past week, firmest at the opening, followed by a soft spot at the middle of the week and a firmer tone later. Hot weather and ' Inclination on the part of receivers to store rather Chan take losses was the chief support to the market, during weak spots, dealers being the heaviest storers during the past week. Prices were up Monday, Tuesday and Friday, and there was no recession except at Chicago on Friday, where the decline was scarcely warranted. The peak of production was past the latter part of last week and a lighter make from now on ia looked for, also less fine butter and more undergrade. Undergrades so far were in big demand and all cleaned up at a price 3c above the low point of several weeks ago. There was no truth in the re port of Danish being received during the week In New York. The storage move ment Is about equal to last year. The butter market at San Francisco dur ing the week was somewhat unsettled, and at times showed, irregularities. Wednes day. prices advanced with very little trad- ing and the tone of the market appeared weak. Thursday, prices dropped, although dealers thought the top grades were firm. The demand generally continued fairly good for top scores, which were scarce, as many creameries formerly making fancy butter were shipping medium and under grade due to hot weather defects. From Friday to Friday. 92-score made a decline of lie. while 90-score showed a loss of lc and the large surplus of undergrades forced them to decline as much as 3c on 87-score. Consumptive demand has fallen off some and dealers generally report trading quiet At the close of the week some demand from the south waa reported, and one car was shipped, also a few , smaller lota The market closed steady on top score and weak on lower' scores. Crop advices continue very favor able with the copious rains Deing Dcnr ficial. From the standpoint of intrinsic value we believe the line of least resist ance will be on the long side of the market. Oats There was considerable liquidation In progress in this market, induced mainly by the weakness in other grains. Cash prices were to oents lower and the trading basis without important change. Shipping sales were 200.000 bushels. Crop advices were very pessimistic and will probably be felt in a market way as soon as there is some indication of steadiness In other directions. Rve Buying by seaboard Interests of September was the outstanding feature and waa followed by advices from the east to the effect that a fair amount of ex port business was being done.
