Poultry and dressed meats were weak at previous quotationa NEW YORK, June S. Liquidation and professional pressure hit stock quotations today. Leaders dropped one to three points and many apeculatlve Issues for leited two to seven points. In many instances, notably steel, equip ments; fertilisers and chemicals, minimum prices were the years lowest. united States Steel, at 764, came within a small fraction of its) low level in - almost two years. Sales were 800.0OO shares. The reversal progressed to the heavy close. Primary factora included Increased demoralization in foreign : exchange and Mexico's proposed heavy export tax oila Continued contraction of operations In the steel and motor industries, additional price-cutting and more dividend omissions provided the aggressive shorts with fresh ammunition Money on call was easv. ooeninr at 4H4 per cent, the minimum- initial rate of the last fortnight, and easing to 6 per cent in the last hour. In the open market free offerings were made at as low as 6 per cenf. Tune funds were closely held, ex cept for prime collateral. Exchange on London broke to $3.69. or 6 cents below yesterday's final quota tion and slightly more than 30 cents be low the high of three weeks ago.- Con tinental remittances suffered extreme losses Mr. Kent's report says: Grains Winter wheat conditions are very promising. Much of the acreage in the earlier districts is fully headed, with I a thick stand and good color. Better than normal condition is reported from some of . the countiea Condition of the crop gen erally is better in the eastern than In the - western counties of the state. Spring , wheat, oats and barley were sown later than usual on account of unfavorable spring seeding conditions and while not . particularly suffering from lack of moist ' are would be materially helped by a good , caln. i. . "Hay Hay crops generally are ra good ' condition. Clover fields will probably I average up better than usual. Several "growers have reported seeing the best fieldo within their recollection growing this season. Some aphis activity has been reported on the vetch crop. Grass and weeds are reported as occurring in some rf the -alfalfa fields. "Tree fruits With the exception of prunes and peaches the Oregon crop will probably be about equal to last year. Hood River la expected to produce a record crop of apples and southern Oregon should have a considerably larger crop than last year. Young apple orchards in the Willamette valley should also produce more heavily than last year. Pears do not show up quite so well as last year and It Is prob able that the crop will be somewhat lesa 'Western Oregon cherries will be less than last year, but The Dalles crop promises much larger than a year ago. "Small fruits Strawberries are becom ing very plentiful in the markets at a very unsatisfactory price to the growera The canneries are not taking their usual wuantiUes and with a crop larager than for some .years the disposal of the same is a problem. Loganberries promise a good crop and a fair market is expected. Other small frntta give promise of better than aa average .crop. SEASON'S WHEAT CABBY-OVER BIG Dealers Estimate Quantity at 5,000,000 to 7,000,000 Bushels. The wheat market was firmer under the Influence of the eastern advance, but there was not much activity at any point. The large buyers were reported out of the market and offers to sell by farmers were light. Bids were advanced 1 cent at the Merchants' Exchange on hard white, soft white, white club and northern spring. Jt is evident that the carry-over this season will be larger than last year, par ticularly the amount of wheat left unsold la farmers hands. Estimates of the amount remaining by the end of the month range from 6,000,000 to 7,000,000 bushels. The coarse grain market Is very dull. No. 2 corn for June delivery was 50 eats lower. Oats bids were unchanged. John Inglis wired from Indiana: "Evans vtUe to Washington, raining; wheat stand so thin it does not lodge; heavy1 spots: crop very light; sain will help oats and corn." Le Count wired from Terra Haute: Think wheat In this territory will av arage 15 bushels per acre. Needs two weeks more favorable weather to mature. Corn looking fine-; general oonditioa oats not very promising." Argentine shipments this week were 875,000 bushels wheat, 1,000.000 bushels aorn and 140,000 bushels oats. Terminal receipts.
