KOI 159.024 Gains In egg storing are also reported from San Francisco where present holdings are 93,310 cases, or 31,55 cases more than year ago. In ths east the difference la egg re serves is more marked than elsewhere, for la addition to the larger production this year storing was begun at a much earlier date this season that last. Department of rrlculture statistics show ths following comparative stocks at Chicago, Now York, Boston and Philadelphia: - Caea. 1.436. T54 210.S02 .April 1. 1971 Came day, 1U-0 ...... Excess 1.S85.0S2 Most of the egg storing In the east has been done on shippers' account. Storing by receivers has been light, as many con aider prevailing prices-too high regardless of the fact that prices are on a much lower basis than for the past two years. Sta tistically the season Is a month ahead of last year, but there la considerable dif ference of opinion as to Just what this may mean with reference to the season's t'ltal production. While some contend that the season will close early because It opened early, best authorities seem to agree that production depends to a large extent upon the feeding and care of the lens, and that since feed Is cheaper the production thje year should be above nor mal. All of which indicates that egg prices should be quite reasonable next fall and winter. holidays. It Is expected that as soon as this demand has been supplied prices will work lower, says the weekly produce re view Issued by Swift tt Co. of Chicago. There la still a large supply of frozen poultry In storage to be marketed. Butter prlcea have . remained fairly steady during the week, although any con slderable Increase In the make In the near future will result In lower prices, says the review. Bank Clearings. Farm work made satisfactory progress, says the weekly weather bureau crop report. In the principal wheat-growing counties winter wheat Is doing well, but In west ern localities low fields still show dam age from excessive moisture. Seeding of spring wheat, oats and barley Is progress ing. Early-sown wheat and oats are com ing up well. Ground Is being prepared for corn, and In Douglas county sweet corn Is being planted. Cherries, pears and prunes are generally ha full bloom; apple bloom la opening. Some additional damage was' done by frost to strawberries, pears ana cherries over limited areas. Apples and prunes In com mercial fruit districts are apparently not harmed. Thrlps are doing soma damage te prunes In Marion county. Alfalfa Is making fair growth, but needs warmer weather. Aphida are Injuring Tetch In Benton county. Pasturage Is generally adequate except 111 some of the elevated districts, where grass is starting slowly. NEW YORK, April 20. Lacking stimu lus or Initiative, the stock market today lapsed into dullness and Irregularity after an early period of activity and higher prices lor speculative favorites, notably o,lls. Steels, equipments and other Industrials were slugglsn at reactions of one to two points. Negotiations between the Amer ican Ship Owners' association and its em ployes occasioned some pressure against marine issues and reacted moderately upon rails. Sales were 400.000 shares. Financial and industrial factors were unchanged, but crop prospects offered greater encouragement. Call money rates were lower and the supply of time funds also was more lib eral. Little attention was paid to tbe British labor situation, but advices indi cated relaxation of recent tense conditions. . Paaslng of the Quarterly dividend by the B. F, Goodrich company and the unfavor able quarterly statement of the Republio iron at Steel company were among the noteworthy incidents. According to trade reviews, lower prices of the United States Steel corporation have effected no mate rial change in the conservative attitude of the public. British and continental rates of ex change strengthened perceptibly on latest reparations developments, but the German rate showed corresponding depression. The bond market waa fairly active, but mainly at the expense of values. Liberty issues were lower, local utilities reflected coming reorganization plans and rails of tne convertible type were again adversely affected. Total sales, par value. 110,- 450,000. Export demand la moderate. Weather continues fine and favorable. Owing to the wet corn harvest, the moist ure content is above 16 per cent, wnereas the April percentage of moisture permissi ble has already been fixed at 14 per cent, Exporters are refusing earlier delivery of northern corn aa It is not wtihln the moist nre content requirement.
