Dr. George Parrish. city health officer, sustained a nartial fracture of bones of the -right ankle Thursday night when, he lipped on the stairway at the-armory. He was treated at the Police Emerg ency hospital following the accident and yesterday morning had his leg put In a plaster cast at the St. Vin cent's hospital. He announced that he would be at his office today again In spite of the accident. I)r. Parrish was attending the fights at the armory when a number of seats gave way on the lower floor. He was go ins down stairs to see if anyone had been injured by the accident when he fell. Birds Cause Trouble. Day after day mail brought to the state game warden's office contains complaints of depredations on wild pigeons in southern Oregon and robins in other sections of the state, which are said to be damaging crops seriously. Scarecrows and other devices seem to make no impression on the birds and requests have been made to kill a few. Uame Warden Burghduff said yesterday his office cannot be held responsible nor. can. it give such per mission, as the feathered pests come under the migratory bird law and only the department of agriculture is Authorized to interfere with them. Electrician Accused or Theft. Roy Crantiall, electrician, was ar rested at Second and Columbia streets yesterday morning by Inspectors Morak and Howell on a warrant charging him with the larceny of six electric lamps valued at $50 from the Portland Electric Maintenance com pany. Charges against Crandall were preferred by H. V. Hollenbrink. mem ber of that concern, 262 Madison street. He was released on $150 bail and will have hearing in the muni cipal court ti day. Suicide Threats Reported. W. E. Boggs, 571 Williams street, attempted to frighten, his ex-wife, Mrs. Marie Bofrgs, into returning to him yester day by threatening to commit suicide, according to a report to the police. He went into another room and turned on the gas for a few moments. Mrs. Boggs sent in a call for the police and Motorcycle Patrolmen Stiles and Wiles were dispatched to the scene. Boggs promised the policemen he would try no more "bluffs," they said. Woman in Auto Hurt. Mrs. Marie Kabath of the Vcnable hotel sustained bruises on the right arm and shoulder yesterday when the automobile driven by her husband, George Kabath, col lided, with another machine at East Thirty-seventh street and Sandy boulevard. Kabath reported to the police that the driver of the other maehin.ei.was a deputy sheriff, but he failed to get the officer's name. He said his machine was damaged to the extent of about $200. I-'airview Ct.uk Elects. Officer were elected at the regular meeting of the . Kairview Commercial club, w hich took place Thursday evening in the city hall of Fairvicw. O. A. Whit ny was chosen president: R. R. Mor ril. vice-president; O. F. Cady. secre tary: J. Lusoher Jr., treasurer, and I,eslie St. Clair, sergeant-at-arms. Discussion at the session dwelt prin cipally on the proposed paving of the rounty road, which connects Sandy boulevard with the Base Line. Wagon Kuns Over Driver. M Tackonz, a Junk dealer at 649 Third street, was run over and injured by his horse and wagon yesterday on Marquam hill road when the horse became frightened at a passing auto mobile truck. Motorcycle Patrolman hefgan of the auto theft bureau reported that the man received cuts and bruises all over his body as result of the experience. His in juries were not considered serious. Services Are Tonight. Services will be held at the Congregation Novah Zedek Talmud Torah, Sixth and Hall streets, tonight and Sunday even ings at 8 o'clock and Sunday and Monday mornings at 9 o'clock. Aero Driver Found Dead. C. Emi, Japanese driver of a vegetable auto mobile, was found dead in hi3 auto mobile at Bridal Veil yesterday. The body was turned over to Deputy Coro ner Goetsch. The man was about 56 years of age. The coroner's office had not learned his address last night. Deputy Coroner Goetsch an nounced that death was due to heart failure. Dnuo Store Broken Open. The drug store of C. C. Banfield, east Fourth and Division streets was broken into by burglars early yester day morning, the police were in formed. Thirty-six Shriner cowboys, mount ed on the very pick of eastern Oregon horseflesh, will be a striking feature j of the floral parade during the Rose festival, according to Walter E. Conk lin, chairman of the outside participa tion committee who held a conference with F. W. Bond of Pendleton, mem ber of the outside participation com mittee, yesterday. Mr. Bond, although not in a posi tion to make any definite promises, expects the Round-Up city to be rep resented by a wonderful float in the parade, in addition to the buckaroos. The matter of entering a float will be presented to Pendleton business men next week by Mr. Bond. "Tom Boyland Jr., chairman of the Shrine committee in Pendleton, has arranged a wonderful show by the Kouna-up ooys during the tshrine con- ention," said Mr. Bond. "Arrange ments have been made to place the horses and riders in the floral parade, and we plan to so decorate our horses that they will be a feature of the pa rade. ' "In connection with the Shrine, we will outdo the activities of 1912 when we took part in the Elks' reunion in Portland. The first four-feature show to be staged by the Orpheum for several weeks will be on the boards at the Heilig theater for three nights and four matinees commencing with the matinee tomorrow. The headliners are Homer B. Mason and Marguerite Keeler in their comedy gem, "Mar ried," and Henri Scott, the famous American basso-baritone. The other artists in big type are Beth Beri, a western dancer discovered by an eastern impressario, and Ned Nor worth who is assisted in a variety of fun-making by Evelyn Wells. 'Married, the comedy playlet pre sented by Mason & Keeler, is one of the classics of big-time vaudeville. It has more than a laugh a minute. This act was one of the first bedroom farces staged in vaudeville and. in the hands of Mason & Keeler it is refreshing and absolutely devoid of slapstick methods. Mr. Scott sings the immortal Toreador song from Car men, an aria from Paust and other equally enjoyable numbers. A news paper reviewer in Seattle f-aid brevity was the only defect in the famous singer's act. He is accompanied on the piano by A. Wynter Smith. Beth Beri, the third feature, is a lithe danseuse from California, who wears a variety of costumes beconi ingly and knows how to weave an in tricate pattern of graceful steps. Sho assisted by Jay Verio and Paul O'Neill. Ned Norworth. the fourth feature, is a comedian with methods all his own and his act creates riotous laughter. Edward Hungerford. widely known newspaper correspondent and feature writer, spent today in Rose burg, where he is obtaining data to be used later in his work. He is traveling in the private car belonging to Charles S. 1' ee. The party was joined here this morning by John M Scott of Portland and will proceed north this evening. A trip to . the orchards and farms of the Umpqua valley adjacent to Roseburg was taken this morning by the visitors as well as to some of the fishing re sorts on the Umpqua.
