If the road measure on the ballot la rejected In the May election the commission may have to call in these loans in or ier to raise money to prosecute its work on the main highways, but if the measure carries it-will not be nec essary to press the counties, for early repayment. This policy became known at the highway commission meeting yesterday, when counties were asking Xor further assistance and when one or two counties said they could not very well repay loans due in 1920 and asked for an extension. The one county which "touched" the commission for a loan was Crook. Judge Wallace explained that with out a little more assistance Crook county could not proceed with its ehare of the improvement in the Ouhuco canyon. The judge was prom ised J5000. A Lane county deloea tion asked permission to put in some timber Instead of concrete bridges on the Pacific highway, explaining that money was tight. Commissioner Kiddle declared that he doesn't like the idea of wooden bridges on the Pacific highway. Commissioner Booth aid that after the May election the matter can be considered, and if the bond measure passes it may be pos sible for the commission to make a loan to Lane county of enough money to have concrete bridges built. The bridges proposed are at Cow creek, Camas, Swafc and a bridge south of Creswell. Another Section Dependent. Also dependent on the result of the election is the section of The Dalles-California highway, between Bend aud the Jefferson county line. The commission ordered that con tracts be let for surfacing such parts aa are necessary, as soon as funds are available. Whether the Pacific highway, on the east side, should go to Harris burg to join the west side road, or continue on south through Coburg and thence to Eugene, was a matter to which the commission gave a cou ple of hours' consideration. Delega tions were on hand advocating both plans. As Commissioner Kiddle is not familiar with that country, no de cision will be made by the commission until after Mr. Kiddle has been over the ground. Both Commimiloner Benson and Booth are acquainted with the territory. Frank J. Miller of Albany pointed ut that Linn county voted $600,000 in bonds last year and designated J100.000 of this sum for the Pacific highway between Albany and Harris burg, the route designated in the original state road map approved by the people. This route brings the east and west side branches of the Pacific highway together at Junction City. The Coburg contingent wants tlie road located directly south and then on to Eugene, eliminating llar risburg and Junction City entirely. Figures were presented showing that the change to the Coburg route would throw $300, 000 on the state wing to the paving involved. Delay la Petitioned. Word was received that a petition wae on the way from Lincoln county to ask that nothing be done on the Simpson creek route east of Toledo for the present. In explanation, it was said that there is a bond issue pending and that the people back i me pona issue want a new lo eation which will take the road to Ulk City, The suggested route is boat two miles Jonger than the one me commission favors and would cos far more than the $100,000 which the bonds call for. No action will be taken by the commission until after ine election. The Associated General Contractors of the Pacific Northwest presented to ine commission a series of suggested cnanges for contracts. (Spe cl&l') to create a new county ou of territory in southern Wasco county and in northern Jefferson county i the definite plan of certain interest In that section, which came to Ugh today. The proposition in all proba bility will be submitted to the voters at the November election. The first indication of the plan came when an accountant, represent ing a auditing firm of Portland, ar rived in The Dalles and began scruti nising county records which had to do with the valuations of southern Wasco county lands. Residents of southern Wasco county today admitted that a divi sion was contemplated to be followed by the creation of a new county. Some denounced the plan sweeplngly while others sponsored it. This section of southern Wasco county comprises that part of the county south of Sherman county, ex tending west from Sherar's bridge up the Deschutes river to Jefferson county line, thence east to the John "For the past year or more I have not been right physically; I just didn't feel good at all, but last April 22d I had an awful attack with my stomach which nearly drew me up and I have been worse ever since. "About the best way I can de scribe the way I felt is to say I was just leg-weary and all in. I; really did not have strength to keep going and I gave up all idea of trying to work. For a long while I had no appetite, but would eat anyhow, though my food never seemed to do me any good. "I would go to bed at night and would sleep, but apparently did not rest, for I would get up just as tired as when I went to bed. I got so I could scarcely go a block but what I would have to stop and rest. "Well, I read about Tanlac one day and that reminded me that a friend had spoken about the same medicine, so I got some and began to take it. 1 had been taking it about a week when one evening, after supper, 1 started to walk and before I real ized it I had walked up to First street and back, about 14 blocks, and never felt it at all, and then I real ized that the tonic was helping me. "I have taken four bottles now and am just feeling real good again. I am able to be back at the Exposition Stock Yards every day and have just aa much energy as I ever had. I get up refreshed in the mornings now and I have a real appetite which makes me enjoy three good square meals every day. Anyone who needs a good tonic will certainly be satis fied with Tanlac and I am glad to recommend it to my friends." The above statement was made re cently by R. A. Dennison, a well known owner and trainer of fine trot- tins horses, residing at No. 214 East Eighth street. Los Angeles, Cal. Mr. ennison has lived in California for 2 years; he is 63 years of age and as followed his present line of busi ness for 30 years. He is well known on the Pacific coast. Tanlac is sold in Portland by the Owl Drug company. Adv. Day river and north to the Sherman boundary. In this section is about one-third of the present area of Wasco county. Portland attorneys have been re tained for the work of preparing the petitions bringing the matter of creating a new county to the atten. tion of the voters. Crawford Not Yet Arrested. HOOD RIVER, Or., April 27 While ocal authorities have received a tele gram from officers at Crookston, Minn., and Chicago that gives them new trace of R. Clay Crawford. wanted here for larceny by bailee, Crawford has not been arrested as was reported by an evening news paper yesterday. The pew trail lead- ng to Chicago may lead to his appre hension, Crawford, posing as an ex ace of both the American and British armies, raised funds from fellow teachers at the Hood River school, where lie was employed.
