Slowly, but surely, the num ber of unemployed ex-service men it being whittled down. Taking care of these men Is a patriot ic duty ; and Oregon proposes to faith fully discharge the duty if it takes all summer. But let us hope it Is not going to take very much longer. Every man, woman and child in the state can help by thinking- first of and ciWne reference to an ex-service man w hen In need of help or assistance of any kind, and by asking those who employ help to phone, write or call it Liberty Temple. Employers in large numbers have done their full duty in this respect and are continuing to readjust their payroll to make room for one or more of these worthy men, but ali have not yet awak ened to the fact that it is their patriotic duty and pleasure toVfirst consider an ex-soldier or sailor wnen in need of an employe, or, where it is possible, to re vise their payroll and MAKE a place for one or more. The final outcome of this campaign whether it will succeed: whether ft can be said of Oregon "well done," and how long ih?se men with dependent families will have to depends upon how soon the men and those employers who have thus far neg lected the matter wake up and decide to DO SOMETHING. Most of them are willing and ready to start in at any reasonable wage that will provide the necessities for their families, providing there is a chance for the future to grow into the business; and those who are not disposed to take the advice of the com mittee should "get into line" and be "good soldiers." Most of the employers ar likewise properly disposed, but many have been "too busy" to give the prob lem the attention contemplated. These and others who have not yet given the matter a single thought are the ones who can clear up this unemployed situ ation overnight almost if they will only look the matter squarely in the face and act upon it in a businesslike way fur their own best interests and the inter- ; ests of everyone concerned.
