After hav ing escaped from prison barracks at Fort Douglas, near Salt Lake, by tun neling under the stockade for a dis tance of 130 feet, and after having made good an escape from Salt Lake and succeeded in reaching Ogden on a freight train, four of 17 alien prisoners were arrested here early this morning. The men. whose names were Paul Seidler. Fred Cook. Harry Sulk and Joe Kolonick, confessed to having es caped from the prison and stated that they were headed for the Pacific coast. Seidler is said to have declared him self the engineer of the attempt to escape and told of another attempt which occurred several mqatths ago, but which was discovered. . The men claimed that the tunnel by means of which they escaped was completed within a month. WASHINGTON FAIR OPENED Perfect Weather, Large Attendance, Children at Yakima. YAKIMA, Wash., Sept. 15. Perfect weather, a large opening day attend ance, an excellent and varied showing of exhibits, notably livestock, a good automobile racing programme and con tests in stock-Judging and canning, marked the opening day of the 1919 "Washington state fair here. It was children's day on the fair calendar and more than 2000 school children enlivened the scene. An ex tensive government exhibit and the etate fish and game exhibit were not able features.
