Dr. Hubert 1eonard Advocates Sur gical Intervention to Improve Condition of Pelvis. With a tribute to Dr. A. T. Still, founder of osteopathy. Dr. W. W. Howard of Medford, president of the Oregon Osteopathic association, opened the annual convention in the assembly hall, 325 Morgan building, yesterday afternoon. About 30 members of th association were in attendance, at th meeting, which will close this evening, and much Interest was taken in the papers presented yesterday. Dr. Charles Petheram of Portland gave a paper on "The Relation of Local Infections to 'Systematic Disease," and the discussion was led by Dr. Mar) Howells of Albany. This brought out the fact that the osteopathic profession is making an effort to teach people the importance of keeping their teeth in perfect condition, and in such cases as found necessary, to have tonsils re moved, rather than allow the body to continue to absorb poisons, even from a small diseased area. "Common Surgical Conditions of the Pelvis'" was the subject of an address by Dr. Hubert Leonard, who emphasized that there are many abnormal condi tions of the pelvis which can be re lieved only by pnrriral intervention and that certain nervous conditions alsc can be relieved only by that method. Today's session will b opened at 9:30 o'clock this morning with a paper by Dr. Ralph Walton of Salem, on "Ob servations of Military Hospitals," with discussion led by Dr. Orville Waller of Eugene. "Infant Feeding" will be the subject of a paper by Dr. Ruth Eaton of Oregon City, with discussion led by Dr. C. L. Whitney of Portland. "The Seauollae of Influensa" will- be dis cussed by Dr. John Talbot of Portland. followed by open discussion. Luncheon will be served in the Port land hotel at noon, to be followed by the business meeting at which officers will be chosen. The afternoon programme will be opened with a paper by E. R. Lyda of The Dalles, on "Osteopathic Technique": and other numbers are: "Methods of Conserving Operator's Strength." Dr. Rhoda Hleks of Astoria: open discus sion; "Treating on the McManus Table."
