Aircraft are then replaced in a " class apart and may not fly outside their own countries except by the spe cial authorisation of the state visited, in which case their treatment shall be in accordance with the usual rules pre vailing in the case of a ship of war. Wood- .hhiI of accepting a bribe. which was begun here this morning in Superior Judge Willis' court. it annrarrd probable a lSth or al ternate juror would be sworn in to hear the testimony and to vote in case anv one of the II regular jurors onuu.u become incapacitated during the trial. One of those accepted was Mrs. t. J. Parker, wife of a retired business man. Three others were exempted as to their qualifications. Captain John D. Fredericks, chief of counsel for Mr. Woodman, had an nounced before the opening of the trial the defense favored a jury composed exclusively of men because there would b. much testimony unfit for women to hear. Vetter of 4rgo. touay was placed in th. custody of K. E. Sscranton of Coo,uille. following a hearing in the iuvenila court before Judge James Watson at Coquille. The case grew out of comolalnts by neighbors ot sirs. Vetter. who swore out a warrant de claring the girl had been Inhumanly treated by the stepmother. The hearing attracted many people who were curious to learn the details of the affair, but the seven or eight witnesses tola nothing sensational, other than to testify they had seen the girl knocked down and badly beaten at aiitereni times. About 20 women of Coquille at tended the trial. Mrs. Vetter did not appear to defend herself or her treatment of the child The young woman exhibited a bruise over an eye. alleged to have been caused during one of the beatings the received from Mrs. ctter. Will' iam Hunter, serving a Jail sentence in Portland for possession of liquor, has entered euit in the Coos county circuit court to collect $273$ from Curry county, claimed to he due him as bounty on sea lions. The statement is made that District Attorney Collier P. Burlington of Curry county Interfered with the payment for the 1112 sealions after 200 had been paid for by the county clerk. Mr. Euffington is alleged to have de manded the entire ekln of the sealions instead of simply the scalps. Hunter, if he should be obliged to furnish the entire hide, would be better off without demanding a bounty, for the tskins average more than . while the bounty is SI. Judge John S.
